Training Check In – Week 2

Well, that started well didn’t it?

As you may recall in my last post I pledged to post a training update each week during my preparation for Ironman Lanzarote 2017. You may not recall seeing one last week…because I failed – in week one!

The refrain of multiple teachers rings in my ears… Could try harder!

I will, I promise.

So without further ado, here it is:

Training Update

The most exciting development over the last week two weeks is that I got back in the pool after a rather longer hiatus than planned. After volunteering at a swim meet, I got chatting to all my swim friends, and realised how much I missed them.

Completed a good 21km training run 2 weeks ago, so that gives me a little confidence. Also completed the Larry Nicholas Memorial Run (9k) last weekend. Actually, this race didn’t go to plan at all and felt horrible, but I finished, a couple of minutes off last years pace. I’m looking forward to running more in the coming months.

Kay and I spent a fun morning at the track taking pictures!

Biking is holding steady, thought the weather has been depressingly poor. Hopefully we will get a few more weeks before we are forced inside for the winter.

Challenges

Well the marathon is next week. My longest runs haven’t really been long enough and I’m definitely concerned about the cut off times. There’s really nothing to be done about it now though, so I will console myself with the fact that even if it all goes horribly wrong – I will still be in Vegas!

Goals

This weeks goals will be a little different with the out of town trip which will disrupt training and of course the final week taper for the marathon.

One goal will be to try to eat well in spite of all of the travelling – I’ve been doing better, of course there’s still a long way I could go but for this week, not totally trashing the diet will suffice.

I also want to try to maintain some consistency in training:

  • Swim at least twice this week.
  • Reintroduce my core routine to my schedule, I’ve been a little lax recently.

  1. Loved reading this! Your running form is looking awesome, Alison — I’m excited to see how the marathon goes for you. And don’t forget to send me a postcard from Vegas!
